Boiler Air Impact Screening Tool

The Boiler Air Impact Screening Tool (BAIST) provides a conservative screening framework to assess the impact of emissions from biomass boilers installed at licensed intensive agricultural facilities on air quality.

If the assessment is successful it indicates that the proposed biomass boiler(s) installed within the boundary of an EPA licensed intensive agricultural facility will not result in breaches of air quality regulatory limits beyond the boundary.

If the assessment is not successful it indicates that more detailed assessment is required (using site-specific dispersion modelling) to assess compliance with air quality regulatory limits.

To complete the assessment you will need to the following information:

• The EPA licence registration number for the intensive agricultural facility if available
• The make and model of boiler that will be installed
• Whether there are any existing or approved (but not yet constructed) commercial activities within 500 metres (e.g. sub-EPA-threshold pig/poultry farm, nursing home or hotel) that have a boiler for non-domestic purposes
• Chimney stack parameters including:
• Stack location
• Internal stack diameter (at point of exhaust)
• Stack height
• Whether the stack has a rain cap
